Tips for overall mental strength
What can you do to keep up your mental health and strength? Here are some general tips:
Connect with people
Healthy relationships can help us lower stress and make you feel less alone. Calling a friend, talking to a neighbor or eating with your family can help keep your mind strong.
Be physically active
Do small things to stay active, like dancing (at home), walking by the sea, swimming, cleaning with music on.
Notice the moment
Take a pause sometimes to take in what’s around you: the colors, the sounds, the breeze. Sometimes our mind is too focused on the past or future, or our phones, that we get out of touch on what is actually happening right now.
Keep learning
Learning can help you build more self-esteem. You feel like you’re improving, proofs that you can grow, gives you a sense of control and independence and activates your reward systems in the brain. All good things… and… you can also learn with someone, which is even better for your mental health.
Do small things for others
Acts of kindness make us feel better. Helping a friend, checking in, volunteering, or even smiling at someone can help to feel better. It creates a sense of purpose and deepens your connection with people around you.
Protect your rest and recharge
Try to sleep well and rest enough. When you feel energized it can be easier to deal with stress.
Nourish your mind and body
Eating healthy helps to support a balanced mind. Eat local foods, like: mango, papaya, fish, spinach and plantain. Try to go easy on soda or alcohol.
